Do you ever struggle to trust the Word of God and what it says about you? You’re not alone! It can be tough to believe His promises even when you feel closest to God. We’re sold a much different message than the Truth while living in this fallen world. Let’s take a look at one the biggest lies the world tells you and contrast it with what your Creator says.
Questioning Your Identity
Your identity is under attack! Confusing messages about who you are surround you. Even Jesus went through this right after being baptized.
Matthew 4:3
What did satan start off with saying in Matthew 4:3? “IF You are the Son of God…” As Jesus struggled with the desire to satisfy His hunger, satan questioned His identity.
God had recently said of Jesus, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased and delighted!” (Matthew 3:17 (AMP)) Yet, in that moment, Jesus had to put His faith in God’s word over the deception being spewed by “the world” (in this case, satan).
We can often find ourselves in similar situations that leave us feeling confused about who we are and what we’re capable of.
Am I good enough?
Do they like me?
Did I mess up?
I’m always anxious! Maybe I need (pills, booze, etc) to take the edge off.
Will he forgive me for saying that?
How can I provide for my family when my bank account is empty?
Thankfully, we are capable of all things through Christ who gives us strength! (Phil 4:13)
Combat the World with the Word
God is your Creator! He knows you better than any newscast, social media post, or magazine image. You can’t find your identity in the latest trend, you can only find it in your Creator’s word.
Who does God say you are? Repeat these affirmations aloud and read the Scripture that backs them.
Colossians 2:10 I am complete in Him. No person or thing can complete me like Jesus can. Their opinion of me will not change who I am.
Romans 8:2 I am free from the law of sin and death. Sin has no power over me! I repent of all my sins, and thank God for His forgiveness.
Philippians 4:7 I have God’s peace, which surpasses understanding. Anxiety does not control me. No matter the circumstance, my mind is at ease as I focus on my Savior.
Philippians 4:19 God is my provider and He will supply my every need. Even when my bank account tries to tell me otherwise, I can trust in Him to provide for me in abundance.
Matthew 5:14 I am the light of the world. I will bring positivity and joy to those around me.
These are only a few of the MANY promises of our glorious and graceful God!
Fight the Good Fight of Faith
Fight the good fight of faith! That’s exactly what His Word calls you to do in 1 Timothy 6:12. This is a daily choice that you have to make. You can read the above affirmations, study His Word, or spend time in prayer.
Whatever it looks like for you, I challenge you to move forward in faith. Not faith in what this world is telling you, but faith in the only thing that matters – His promises to you. If you focus on the negative, more negativity will come. If you focus on your struggle, you’ll be stuck in it. Trying to overcome this world on your own will leave you broken and defeated. But in Christ, “be courageous; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33).
Be an overcomer!
